Because it matters

Video intercoms and other connected devices may have flaws that affect privacy, and consumer organizations have been warning about this risk.

The good news: most protection comes from simple, consistent habits.

Step 1 — Change your password immediately (and don't repeat it).

Good practices for smart devices include replacing predefined passwords with a strong, unique password.
Practical tip from Portuguese (Brazil): use a passphrase (3-4 random words) + numbers.

Step 2 — Update firmware and app (always)

Keeping software/firmware up-to-date is a central recommendation in smart device security guides and helps to fix known vulnerabilities.

Checklist:

  • Enable automatic updates if available.

  • It also confirms router updates (see Step 3).

Step 3 — Protect the router (because it's the "gateway")

If the router is weak, any camera may be exposed.

Minimum requirements:

  • WPA2/WPA3 active

  • Strong Wi-Fi password (not the one on the original sticker)

  • Disable remote router administration (if not needed).

Step 4 — Remote access: only if you (really) use it.

Disabling remote access features when they are not needed is a recommended practice in security guidelines for connected devices.

Step 5 — Account and sharing: less is more

  • Do not share logins.

  • review who has access to the app

  • If there is cloud storage, it reads what type of data you store and for how long.

Quick checklist (copy and paste)

  • Device password changed and unique.

  • Updated firmware/app

  • Secure router (WPA2/WPA3, strong password)

  • Remote access is disconnected if not needed.
