Energy labeling in climate-controlled wineries: how to compare models without being misled.
Since the update of labels in the EU, the scale is A–G . The labeling rules for refrigeration appliances are in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/2016 .
1) What a winery's label shows (what really matters)
On the European Commission's official "Fridges and Freezers" page, it is indicated that the label shows:
-
Energy class A–G
-
consumption
-
volumes
-
noise
And, in the case of wineries , it also shows the number of bottles that can be stored .
2) “Bottles” on the label: what does it mean?
The metric is based on standard (75cl) bottles and declared capacity. Technical criteria describe the “maximum number of standard 75cl (Bordeaux) bottles that fit according to the manufacturer's instructions”.
✅ Good practice for UMBOX: on the product page, you add a line:
"Capacity advertised is for standard 75cl bottles; larger bottles (e.g., Champagne) may reduce actual capacity."
3) QR code and EPRE: how to verify official information
The European Commission indicates that the QR code provides access to EPREL , which contains more detailed information about models placed on the EU market.
Examples of product information sheets for wine storage appliances show fields such as " Number of standard wine bottles " and a reference to the EPREL record.
4) Checklist for comparing wineries in 30 seconds
-
Number of bottles (standard 75cl)
-
kWh/year (annual consumption)
-
Noise (dB + class) (important in open spaces)
-
QR/EPREL to confirm data
