Sewing machine maintenance: a simple guide
1) Cleaning (which solves 80% of the problems)
-
Turn off the machine and unplug it.
-
Remove the bobbin and clean any lint/fluff from the shuttle/feed teeth area.
-
Use a brush (don't "push" lint inside).
Manufacturer support guides reinforce steps such as safely disconnecting and cleaning the coil area.
2) Needle change (more important than it seems)
Exchange if:
-
the needle hit the pin/zip
-
the stitches are starting to fail
-
There are tugs on the fabric.
-
the line breaks down for no reason.
3) Thread and bobbin (compatibility)
-
Avoid using very old and fuzzy yarn (it increases lint).
-
Use the correct coils for the model.
4) Tension and unsightly points: quick checklist
If the stitch comes loose underneath:
-
confirms superior alignment
-
Check if the coil is positioned in the correct direction.
-
Clean the coil area.
If the line breaks:
-
damaged needle
-
very high voltage
-
poor quality line
5) Storage
-
cover/bag
-
dry place
-
away from dust
